Why it's fierce: For many in the IPTV space, MPEG-2 is the gold standard of codecs currently, but there is a sweeping transition to MPEG-4 that has caused some delays in the industry as demands for the chipsets have skyrocketed. Once the chipmakers get their product levels up, Envivio and its 11 MPEG-4 patents (five others pending) is in a unique position to capitalize on the switch.
What to look for: Envivio will ride the MPEG-4 wagon all the way to the bank.
